Recently, my friend Jane Monzures, host of Living Healthy Chicago, stopped by my office to learn more about Anti-Aging Medicine and Hormone Replacement. I spent time showing her some of the specialized equipment in our clinic, such as our state-of-the-art body scanner, which shows your percentage of body fat and lean tissue, and most importantly, where the fat is located, because fat stored in the abdominal cavity is the most threatening to your health. Jane and I talked about the efforts our society makes to look and feel young despite the aging process, an industry expected to gross $292 billion in 2015. We buy creams that promise flawless skin and take pills that advertise a slimmer waist. We want to look our best and in doing so, we expect rapid results and prolonged youth. However, the problem in the quest for youth is that so many of us are starting in all the wrong places. In my practice, I work to heal my patients, and to do that, I look at the whole person, not just their symptoms. I firmly believe that my patients can achieve a state of cognitive and physical health that they never could have imagined through integrative care. Integrative care is a multi-faceted approach to health care, which addresses and integrates a variety of components that make up a patient’s overall health – physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, spiritual, and lifestyle. Combining these conventional and alternative practices will help to rejuvenate and optimize the way your body functions and ultimately, the way you live. These areas include:
Anti-Aging Medicine:preventing and reversing signs of aging
Regenerative Medicine:replacing and restoring human cells, tissues, and organs
Functional Medicine:restoring and maintaining physiological and psychological balance
The first and most important step I take toward healing my patients is uncovering every factor that makes you, “you” – the way you think, the way you eat, your genetic predispositions, and your daily habits (good and bad). Everything is taken into consideration when mapping out a plan to achieve a healthier life. I want my patients to feel amazing, better than they’ve ever felt. While the fountain of youth itself may not be real, this form of medical care, including preventative and regenerative measures, can truly slow the aging process. As a result, my patients can live longer, healthier, and more productive lives.
